GCL Group Hosts Dialogue with Two Nigerian State Governors in Suzhou, Forging a New Paradigm for Sino-African Resource and Energy Cooperation
On July 29, Abdullahi Audu Alhaji Sule, Governor of Nasarawa State, and Dauda Mohammed Lawal, Governor of Zamfara State, Nigeria, paid a special visit to the GCL Energy Center in Suzhou. They held talks with Zhu Gongshan, Chairman of GCL Group, reaching broad consensus on advancing new energy development, mineral resource integration, and industrial chain synergy under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
Governor Abdullahi Audu Alhaji Sule expressed high appreciation for GCL’s comprehensive capabilities. He noted that as a global leader in green energy, GCL possesses technological advantages and industrial expertise that are precisely what Nigeria needs to advance its industrialization process. With abundant mineral resources, both Zamfara and Nasarawa States align closely with GCL’s industrial footprint, creating vast prospects for cooperation. He expressed hope that this partnership would yield tangible results at an early date, delivering real benefits to the Nigerian people.
Chairman Zhu Gongshan extended a warm welcome to the delegation. He highlighted that Nigeria, as a major African economy, holds immense development potential. GCL Group has already established significant domestic projects in China involving lithium iron phosphate (LFP) and silicon-carbon anode materials, generating long-term strategic demand for key minerals such as lithium. The rich resource endowments of the two Nigerian states complement GCL’s industrial planning naturally. This collaboration will effectively create a closed-loop industrial chain linking overseas resources with domestic manufacturing, achieving precise matching between global resources and production capacity. It stands as a vivid example of implementing the BRI and deepening Sino-African industrial capacity cooperation.
During the talks, both sides focused on an innovative cooperation model centered on resource synergy and energy infrastructure development. They agreed that establishing diversified, multi-tiered cooperation mechanisms could effectively address Nigeria’s power shortages and bottlenecks in resource exploitation, thereby achieving mutual benefit and shared development. Key consensus was reached on advancing large-scale power stations and distributed photovoltaic (PV) projects, launching the "Light Up Two States" livelihood initiative, and developing mineral deep-processing facilities. These projects are set to drive the optimization and upgrading of Nigeria’s energy mix while boosting local employment and industrial growth.
Prior to the symposium, the delegation toured the GCL Future Energy Pavilion, gaining in-depth insights into GCL’s globally leading technologies and industrial ecosystem across photovoltaics, semiconductors, energy storage, and electric power sectors.
Also attending the meeting were Daniel Ogah Ogazi, Member of the Nigerian Federal House of Representatives; Shuaibu Magaji Labaran, Secretary to the Nasarawa State Government; Abubakar Nakwada Mohammad, Secretary to the Zamfara State Government; Wang Dong, Executive Director and Executive President of GCL Group and Chairman of GCL Resources; Qu Shuliang, Executive President of GCL Resources; and Yang Jun, Vice President of GCL Power Group.
