The 2021 Taiyuan Energy Low Carbon Development Forum was held on September 3. Premier Li Keqiang attended the opening ceremony via video link and delivered a keynote speech. The forum released a research report on the contribution of Chinese energy companies to low-carbon development, in which it listed the top 50 contributors. GCL Group is on the honor roll. Jointly published by China Energy News and some professional think tank, this list is the very first in-depth and authoritative assessment on the "carbon peak" and "carbon neutral" of Chinese energy companies, and it is of guideline value for the energy industry.

Zhu Gongshan, Chairman of GCL Group, was invited to the roundtable dialogue organized by the forum. The discussion was focused on energy transition. VIPs including Liu Jizhen, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Chen Guoping, Deputy General Manager of China State Grid Corporation, Peng Suping, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Yao Zhenguo, Senior Vice President of Siemens Energy, Zhao Weiliang, Chairman of Total Energy Group China were present at the session.

Zhu Gongshan said that ever since its startup 31 years ago, GCL Group has been adhering to the development principle of clean energy and green energy, dedicated to innovative and green technologies. Zhu Gongshan has developed his own insight on the "carbon peak" and "carbon neutral" goals given GCL’s experiences over the years. He believes that achieving the "30·60" target is the unshirkable responsibility and mission of private energy companies. As a leading silicon material research, development and manufacturing company in China, GCL has been promoting polysilicon production through constant technological innovation since entering the field in 2006. Unit power consumption for polysilicon production has been reduced from 170 kWh per kilogram to 60 kWh. The latest FBR technology has made another breakthrough in cost control. It is supposed to bring down the comprehensive power consumption of granular silicon production to 15 kWh per kilogram. Lower material cost means lower photovoltaic power generation cost, a chain effect. Plus, the emerging and application of disruptive PV power generation technologies, such as the use of perovskite crystals, can significantly improve the photoelectric conversion efficiency. The combination of lower material costs and newer technology are bound to create synergistic effects and to drive the shift from wind, solar and storage to green hydrogen. This will help to push China’s revolution and safety production in energy industry, and to form China’s renewable energy landscape, with wind power and PV power as its two pillars, a synergetic development of source, grid, load, storage as its focus and an integrated application of wind, solar, and hydrogen storage as its pipelines.

Taiyuan Energy Low-Carbon Development Forum is a professional forum, approved by the State Council and set up in 2016. This is its 4th successful session. The Forum has risen to fame rapidly and gained its international influence in the energy industry. It is now a high-end platform for dialogue, for scientific and technological achievements release, and for international cooperations.

Theming "Energy·Climate·Environment", the 2021 Forum has attracted the attention of politicians from all over the world. Ethiopian President Sahel Walker, Papua New Guinea Governor Bob Dadae, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, Luxembourg Prime Minister Betel, Sri Lankan Prime Minister Mahinda and other international dignitaries attended via video link.
